Tomorrow Lillian is 10 months old. She continues to develop more and more. This month she has started to eat solids much better. Before she would always shake her head and not open her mouth, now she will open her mouth and even ate 2 ounces of food at once. Some of her favorites are peaches, applesauce, and butternut squash. Last Saturday she scooted backwards while on her belly and then went from her belly to sitting. She hasn’t mastered it yet because she has only gone to sitting that one time.
As always, the pictures on the left are her 10 month pictures and the one on the right is her 9 month picture. Don’t forget to watch the slideshow at the end of the post for more pictures.

She will sometimes wave but really likes to clap. She started randomly clapping awhile ago but will now clap if we do, when she gets excited, wants attention, and even when we sing to her or she hears music. Her personality is really starting to show and we feel like she is quickly developing and learning new things. Just today, we noticed a tooth is starting to poke through.

As you know, we have had issues with Lillian’s ears and antibiotics not clearing them up. Well, on Monday, March 15, we had Lillian’s pre op appointment for tubes. Her ears were clear enough at that time so we scheduled the surgery for the 18th. Her surgery was at 7:30 in the morning but she was not able to eat before the procedure. She did really well considering she didn’t understand why mommy wouldn’t just feed her. Mark and I did everything to distract her from thinking about eating.
She also did well with all of the “strange” people that she had to see. They took her in for the surgery at 7:40 and we were taken back to see her by 8. I immediately fed her and she was still completely out of it. Luckily she didn’t have to have any IV’s or shots to be put under anesthetic; she just had to wear a mask. Once she started to fully wake up she couldn’t stop crying. The nurse assured us that it was normal and that it might help to go ahead and go home because she would then be in a familiar place. So we left and she fell asleep in the car. She slept for about another hour and then was fairly back to normal. She did sleep more throughout the day and didn’t really want to play as much as normal, but by 6 that night she seemed to be completely back to herself.
We had to put ear drops in her right ear for 5 days because they had to drain fluid from that ear in order to insert the tubes. She had no drainage from either ear until Monday (March 22). Since we were instructed to call for any drainage after the first two days we called the on call doctor. He prescribed Omnicef, an oral antibiotic, and more ear drops. We did both for 5 days and they seemed to clear everything up.
March 31, we took her back to the ENT for a routine post surgery check. She weighed 13 lbs 9 oz so she was close to the weight that she was prior to being so sick from the last antibiotic. She also finally had clear ears. Even though we had a few appointments after Christmas that her ears weren’t infected, they had always had fluid in them. With the fluid it was just a matter of time before an infection took place, so hearing that they were clear was fantastic news.
We were also told that the drainage we had seen a week before was a good thing because it showed that the tubes were working. Without the tubes all of that drainage would have been stuck behind her eardrum, therefore would have caused another infection.
Since all of this, Lillian has been such a happy baby. She is giggling and smiling what seems like all of the time.
