Mader’s German Restaurant

2009 Maders Restaurant

While Jeff, Laura, and Ada were visiting we went into Milwaukee and ate at Mader’s Restaurant.  It was the first time that Mark and I had eaten at a German restaurant other than going to Mader’s for an appetizer during our Milwaukee Food Tour.  The food was delicious with the pretzel rolls and the Rueben rolls topping everyone’s list.

In the waiting area there was a huge chair that we had to make sure to get a picture of Ada sitting in.  She looked so tiny in the big chair!  Speaking of Ada, she was excellent at the restaurant.  She sat in the high chair and ate along with the rest of us.

2008 Wisconsin State Fair

Everyone at work told me that we had to go to the Wisconsin State Fair, so I forced Mark to go and we had a lot of fun.  The pictures don't show enough of the fair but we walked around and didn't feel like a lot of the things to do were picture worthy.

One example is the Exposition (EXPO for Wisconsinites) Center, in which they have "live infomercials."  We were very tempted to buy the ShamWow! but resisted the urge to throw away our money.  Even though it appeared to work.

We were able to meet up with two of my co-workers so that was nice for Mark to finally meet them.  We ended up eating lunch with Lisa and her family and just chatting with Alicia and her kids for a little while before we left.

Friday at work, one of the ladies had extra cream puffs and Lisa mentioned to her that I had never had one before.  So she gave me one for Mark and I to try.  For those of you that don't know, cream puffs are a must at the Wisconsin State Fair.  They even have a drive through area for people to pick them up if they can't stop by the fair that day!!  It was not bad, but I would much rather have a chocolate chip cookie or some other sweet treat.

For those of you that read Three Little Rusts, you know that I mentioned that the State Fair had many foods on a stick, including mac n' cheese.  Unfortunately we didn't even see the booth that had them so I couldn't take any pictures.  I was curious to see how they made it.

We were able to see the pig races that I was told was a must.  It was pretty cute and they even had ducks and goats race as well.  We also saw a diving dog, livestock, and we rode the sky glider.

Here are all of the pictures that we took.

Cubs vs. Brewers at Miller Park on 7/30/2008

I am still in awe that we got tickets!  The game was sold out, but thankfully our company is a sponsor at Miller Park, so we got 4 tickets 5 rows off the field on the 3rd base side.  We found out 5 hours before the game that we had the tickets.  Although we hit bad traffic, we still made it in for the first pitch.

The game was a ton of fun.  We got to see the sausage race and have bad food at high prices.  I can still smell the stale beer.  But it wouldn't be a game without it.  Thanks to Gehl for the great tickets!

View Larger Map with Names of Stops

April and I went on a fantastic trip to Milwaukee to enjoy a Milwaukee Food Tour.  We really enjoyed ourselves.  Along the tour we learned more about the history of Milwaukee, and also got to sample some fantastic food, deemed best in Milwaukee.  I tried some food that really made me appreciate how great some of these restaurants are.  The map that I have attached shows the 8 places that we went to along the way.

Click the link below the map to see it larger with names of the stops.

I would recommend that everyone does this tour to get a feel for the strong Italian and German influence on the city.

Milwaukee

IMG_1245IMG_1247Since we were taking Michele to the Amtrak station in Milwaukee we decided that we would make a day out of it.  We decided that we would go on the riverwalk.  Instead of only doing the riverwalk we also walked to the lake and saw the art museum.  We weren't able to go in because we didn't have enough time.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day, like it was all week and weekend.

We wanted something light for lunch so we decided that we would take Michele to IMG_1255the Chocolate Factory which is an area sub and ice cream shop.  All three of us were good and didn't get ice cream. : )

After lunch is when we walked to the art museum, picture to the right.  From there we could see and hear summerfest, and also see Lake Michigan.  Mark and I decided that some weekend are going to go and enjoy Milwaukee again.

Here are all of the pictures of our half day in Milwaukee
